How discount math works
sale price = original × (1 − discount ÷ 100). For a second discount, apply the same formula to the already discounted price.
Stacked percentages are sequential. They should not normally be added together: 20% off and then 10% off equals 28% off overall, not 30%.
The optional tax field is applied after percentage and fixed discounts. Check local rules when a manufacturer coupon, store coupon, rebate, or trade-in is involved.
Useful discount examples
25% off $80
$60 final price and $20 saved.
20% then 10%
$100 becomes $72, a total saving of $28.
Reverse a sale
$90 reduced to $63 is exactly 30% off.
Frequently asked questions
Multiply the original price by the discount percentage as a decimal, then subtract that saving from the original price. A 20% discount on $100 saves $20, leaving $80.
